Ohhhhh yeah, I been thinking of this song for a while now and I don't have the Labcabincalifornia album. Well now I do thanks to my boy Craig Reyna and his generosity in zipping the whole CD up and uploading it to his ftp for me, gotta love AIM. So, probably my favorite track from this album and the one that has a lot of sentimental/nostalgic value for sure. Such a mellow and cool song, it just makes me happy with thoughts of high school and the few years after. Fat Lip's verse is a classic. There are some bangers from this album so I'm sure some other ones will appear as SOTD soon enough.

This has been a song that I've always loved by Gerry Rafferty, besides Baker Street of course. I happened to hear it today while having beers with Dan at Peso's. It surprised me to hear it because it's usually club bangers being played there, but I guess since it was the day time they play some mellow stuff too. So yeah, this is my SOTD today, great lyrics, reminds me of being in love and makes me want to be in love again.

I woke up pretty late today, and immediately I was excited because I knew what I was going to make for breakfast. Before work on Friday I stopped by my favorite bakery in Seattle: Upper Crust Bakery My friend Jacqui promised to save me a loaf and she sure did, I think she left a note on it that said "Law the Ninja" that amused the cashier who grabbed it for me up front.(She calls me that cuz sometimes she's baking in the back and she doesn't see me come in for my morning Americano and pastry, hehe.)

So, yeah a great way to cap off a weekend on a Sunday morning is french toast made with challah. For the four 3/4 in. slices of challah, I used 3 jumbo eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar, and 1/4 cup of whole milk. It made a perfect perfect french toast, the best I've ever made at home. Prior to this I was only using milk and eggs, the vanilla and sugar really help make the toast richer. A half pat of butter on top of each slice before being topped off with some fairly expensive Trader Joe's Canadian Grade B maple syrup. I totally forgot to sprinkle some powdered sugar on top though. hmph.

Challah has to be the perfect french toast bread because it is the perfect texture and already is pretty tasty by itself. Yum. Funny thing is that this is probably only the third or fourth time that I've ever mixed a sweet breakfast item with some bacon. I've always bee real particular with that kind of thing haha. So nuked some Oscar Meyer bacon to give me a little saltiness.

All in all, a perfect breakfast and one that I will definitely make again and if I'm not lazy I will throw the bacon in a cast iron skillet for ultimate deliciousness.

So I have half a loaf of Challah left and wondering what I should do with it, if I'm feeling extra motivated I'm sure that I could wake up earlier tomorrow morning and make it again. French toast really is a fast and delicious breakfast, that keeps you pretty full for a while. Now, to figure out what else to do today.

SOTD 8/8 Mitch All Together - Mitch Hedberg

So it's not a song, sorry but Mitch Hedberg is one of my favorite comedians of all time, definitely in my Top 3. I didn't become familiar with his stuff until a few months after he passed away, but since then I have listened to all his old material regularly. It never gets old. He's our generation's Steven Wright, I guess. So bummed that he could not still be making us laugh to this day. I love how Mitch wasn't polished, a little awkward, able to laugh at himself, but always always funny.

This is the entire Mitch All Together CD, wanted to change it up to maybe get some more people to love what this guy did. In an era where there are a lot of bullshit comedians that people think are genius ::coughDaneCook:: simple, but effective humor will always have a place.

I will be posting SOTD on my blog since it shows up in the Notes on FB anyways. My friend Leslie posted Michael Buble doing a passable cover of this song and I commented that Nina's is much better of course. And then today Hai's status reminded me of it. If perhaps one day you find yourself on a lovely beach before dawn, and can somehow play this song and time it for the horns to come in as the sun peeks over the horizon I'm sure you will achieve something close to nirvana on earth.

I think the first ditty I ever heard sung by her was "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and was captivated by her voice and the soul behind it. Shanna put the "Love Me or Leave Me" on a mixtape back when we were young romantics, so that song will always have a special place in my heart too.

Garret's bachelor party was a great success. I can't say much about it of course due to contractual obligations, but a great and mostly legal time was had by all. I just remember eating and drinking very well and never getting sick or feeling to shitty. Vancouver is filled with a huge stock of beautiful girls. Highest hot chick per capita in all of North America easily. I will grab my minSD card outta my camera and shove it into my laptop soon and see if there are any postable pics.

That's what I think of as I watch the To Catch a Predator marathon that has been taking place on MSNBC yesterday and today. Is it wrong that it's still so hilarious to me even after I've seen all these sick sons of bitches get caught before? I'm still amazed that these shows took place over a span of 3 years and people were still getting caught on TV till the end of the run of this series in 2007. One of the things that cracks me up is the chat logs that they have of what these sex offenders said. Pure disgusting hilarity. So yeah, besides coverage of the Elite 8, all I've been watching on TV are truly desperate and sick individuals thinking they're going to have sex with 13 year old boys and girls.

A quick tour of my new homestead

This is a quick tour of the new house I'm living in in the lovely Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. It may sound like some messed up sitcom idea, but I am living sharing this great house with three gay guys: Mike, Chris, and Kyle. They are really cool guys and I feel really lucky to be able to live with them. There's also a dog that lives here, Chris' beagle named Memphis who is 7 months old. Coming home and having him run to me and jump all over me reminds of Wilby so much.

The neighborhood is great. I have a really cool sports bar three blocks down the hill that I frequent a few times a week to enjoy their really sweet $5 meal happy hour. Starbucks, Tully's, Albertsons, BOFA, Subway, a dope gym and an ice cream spot are all about the same distance away too. I am gonna try to get a job out here so I would never have to leave the island at all. We'll see!

This year's Academy Awards are tonight, they seemed to have come up out of no where. I am bummed I didn't get to to see all the nominees, but I'll take a shot at picking the winners.

I've seen two of the five Best Picture noms (TCCoBB and Slumdog). I really regret not seeing Milk. The other two films, I've no real desire to see. I enjoyed the two I viewed, but Slumdog really left an impression on me and I walked out of the that movie in a good mood. Benjamin Button sort of left me bummed out, but I was amazed at Brad Pitt's transformation. I love Cate Blanchett, she has got to be one of the greatest actresses of our time.

I think Slumdog will be able to accompany its Golden Globe with Mr. Oscar. I wouldn't be surprised to see Benjamin Button win though because it has the formula of an Oscar winner. The Academy loves sweeping epic movies with less than perfect characters with a lust for life (Forrest Gump anyone?)

ME = HUGE RETARD

So, I arrive at the gym and am having a great workout, rocking out to the MGMT station on Pandora. (Pandora is the BEST app on the iPhone btw.) I'm doing everything at a fast pace because it's Saturday for Pete's sake and I don't want to spend 2 hours in a stinky weight room. So I'm loading 2 plates on the bar on both sides on flat bench press and put collars on both sides. The thing is that I was so into getting amped to "Kids" that I forgot to put the second damn plate on the right side.

I lift off the bar and wow, of course I'm expecting both sides to be equal so I lift off with a nice burst. BUT, shit the right side has 45 lbs. on it and the left has 90 lbs. so do the math. That isn't equal so I really fucked up, I have no time to correct this and it is awkard and immediately I lose grip on the left side. Since I don't put my thumbs around the bar on the bench press the bar slips out of my left hand and proceeds to fall onto the upper part of my chest. Because there are collars on both ends the plates just don't fall off. So I look like the biggest idiot to the (THANK GOD) only 4 other dudes in the weight room. An old guy has to get the bar back up to the rack.

I am totally embarrassed. One of the other guys who saw this comes up to me and said he had a mindfart like that once as well on the exact same bench, but he was distracted because of "this hot bird in Spandex".

Right now I'm just looking back on the incident and thanking whatever higher power made it so the bar did not fall on my face or throat, because that would've totally ruined my day and maybe my life. The only damage is a severely bruised ego and some ugly red marks on my chest and armpit.

So lesson of the day is pay some god damn attention to what you're doing at the gym.

When I was in high school I remember a bunch of people over at my girlfriend's aunt and uncle's house watching TV and drinking beer while she was supposed to be housesitting. This is where I first was exposed to Chris Rock's HBO special "Bring the Pain". It has a special place in my heart. I don't remember ever, EVER, laughing so hard at a stand up comedy routine up to that point in my life. It was just refreshing and hilariously awesome. I guess it would be like how previous generations felt when they first heard Martin, Carlin, Pryor, or Murphy. Anyways, the bit about tossing salads really cracked me up. Since then I've always wondered what "prison special" Rock was referring to. Because of the greatness that is Youtube, I now know where his original material came from and that in fact it was real.

Gran Torino

Dan and I watched an Oscar screener for Gran Torino last night. I thought it was a fairly good movie. Clint Eastwood of course steals the whole show, mostly by using all of the most hilarious racist epithets. Zipperhead, zip, gook, slope, chinks, ting tang, ching chong, Charlie Chan...all of the glorious terms for sure.

The Hmong kid Thao, that Eastwood's character befriends is such a sack of a human being you just want to kill him yourself. Really, he is a pathetic loser and has this little-kid pouty face that I couldn't stand. Who the hell did the casting for this movie? There has to be other young Asian actors out there that could've done a better job that him. It was just really distracting how bad the kid acted. Yeah, I understand that he had to be pathetic so you feel sorry for him, but COME ON.

The stereotypical Asian gangsters and their riced-out Honda Civic....I have no words. The epitome and personification of most young Asian male stereotypes, to say the least. The fat one of that group though, aaaargh!! I just wanna scream thinking of that piece of shit. I guess that was good casting because you really hate that group.

I was going into the movie expecting something great, considering all of the reviews that I've read and word of mouth. I was a little disappointed though, especially with the ending. It's not what you WANT to happen, but you understand.

Icy roads........serious business

So I owned myself today. Trying to move my car to a better location besides the previously mentioned and previously shown STEEP ASS driveway I slid my car into a ditch making a right hand turn one block away from my house.

My speed around said turn was 4-7 mph, which apparently is 4-7 mph too fast when there is ice around such a turn. Going into the turn was perfectly dry, it hasn't snowed here since Saturday night. I'm a dumbass. I didn't hit anything. My wheels did contact the soft peat in the embankment a little bit but no damage to anything. I was about 3 feet from a stop sign, that would've sucked.

Garret and Hagan tried to tow me out with Garret's Tundra but they couldn't get any grip at all and could only drag me along the ditch for about 15 yards and not out of it. :-(

So I hear it will be snowing and like 15 degrees tonight. Grrrrrreat. What a nice introduction to a Washington winter. I asked for it thought.

It started snowing last night while Garret, his fiance Melissa, Trent and I were eating at Dragonfish . I kept watching the snow fall through the windows while enjoying my poke roll. It'd been a while since I've seen actual snow fall. I think the last time was when I was in Norman, OK eight or nine years ago.

All four of us then proceeded to go see the crapfest of a movie that is known as The Day the Earth Stood Still. I was really excited to see that flick, didn't want to believe the less than favorable reviews and of course ended up disappointed. Nothing else is worth typing about this movie. It should exclusively be reserved for viewing if you are at home sick and there is absolutley nothing on the TV and you happen to stumble upon it on Starz or something. Really, it is the lamest movie I've seen in a theater in I don't know how long.

When Trent and I pulled up I decided to stop in the middle of our steep as the big drop of a rollercoaster driveway without pulling into my normal spot because Stella (my car) was sliding down it and making it a little too uncomfortable for me. I didn't feel like crashing through the garage door or into the house. So it's just sitting there.

I woke up this morning to see the entire driveway covered in snow as well as a nice layer of ice. There is basically no way my car can get out of the steep driveway. Fun. Oh well, it gives me time to catch up on some nerding out on the internet and posting on here for the first time in a while.

Our friend Ryan Pratt came into town yesterday so we drove around, had some good pizza and beer and went to some spots in and around the city to take a couple of good pics. It's the first time I used the manual settings on my camera and I thought these couple pics came out great. I thought one was so cool in fact that it is now the default pic at the top of the blog.

Ok, so this is gonna be the home of my blog in Seattle. I'm very excited and since most of the stuff I'll be talking about and posting in here is new to me, it'll also be new to you! You get to share my journey in the Emerald City. :-) I'm typing this right now from the office of WorldOnePerformance . I've never really tried to keep a blog before, but since I cancelled Myspace back in April I'll be able to waste my time doing this instead of stalking people on there..... jk.

My plan is to update this thing daily with my experiences of getting to know this wonderful city. Of course being a huge foodie I hope to have a lot of postings about restaurants, coffee spots, bars, lounges, etc.. I already saw a cup cake spot that looked so dope, but it was closed.

Today, Dan and I hit up downtown to take a peak into Qwest Field, where the Seahawks play. I'm not a Seahawks fan yet, but my roommates are trying very hard to make me one, I guess I'll come around. One thing I assured them is that there is no way in Hell that I'll ever wear a football jersey! I took a photo from the steps in front of Qwest.

We ate at Elysian Fields across the street from Qwest, I had the Bolognese. And surprisingly, it was quite delicious for brewery-restaurant lunch food. Could this be my Stadium Brewery of Seattle?? I liked how the pasta was of the Orecchiette type which you don't ever really see. It actually goes very well with a meat sauce, when usually a long thin noodle like the ubiquitous spaghetti or linguine would normally fill the role.

We sat near the patio so I could observe the Blue Angels practicing for their demonstrations this weekend at the SeaFair . I'm very excited to check them out. The last time I saw a Blue Angels demo was at FleetWeek 2000 in San Francisco, when I used to live in the Bay.

Since we're on the topic of food right now, I have to mention the cheap and delicious dinner Dan and I had last night at Talarico's in West Seattle. There is nothing like a cold, local-brewed root beer accompanied by a humongous $5 slice of pizza. I ordered a West Side slice which was topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella, and marinara. It was the perfect thickness and the sauce really was delish. It's a cool bar atmosphere and the cougar sitting next to Dan (a 7.1292 on my rating scale) was discussing the current state of Major League Baseball with him for quite a while. ::Sigh:: If only I had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports like my friend, I would've been in like Flynn. Oh well, I'll be going to that spot frequently I know it, and maybe i too will have a late-30'something lass to gab with.

Hopefully, we'll be able to go see Step Brothers tonight. I've heard nothing but positive reviews of this movie. If you saw it let me know what you thought of it.
